The recently reopened Waverley Line train connection from Edinburgh provides an hourly connection from Edinburgh’s Waverley Station. The new Tweedbank station (midway between Galashiels and Melrose) is only 7 miles, or a 12-minute cab ride), from Selkirk. Borders Buses serves Selkirk, providing connections with every major Border town. The X95 bus travels down the A7 from Carlisle via Hawick or from Edinburgh via Galashiels. The 73 bus from Galashiels travels to Selkirk and, having stopped at the Market Place, journeys onwards to Bannerfield, across the Ettrick Water.

If travelling by train and bus, The Borders Explorer ticket includes a return rail trip from Edinburgh – Galashiels or Tweedbank station and unlimited day travel across the Borders Bus network.

By car, Selkirk is at the crossroads of the north-south A7 (Edinburgh to Carlisle) and the east-west roads connecting ST. Boswells and Moffat (the A699 goes from St. Boswells to Selkirk Hill and the A7, while the A708 connects Selkirk with Moffat, via the scenic Yarrow Valley.
