Darts marathon aims for bullseye in fight against cancer

Four Selkirk men are preparing to spend 12 hours at the oche in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, as they take on an endurance darts marathon to raise money for the charity.

Thomas Bell, Gavin Henderson, Graeme Legge and Ryan Legge will represent ‘Club 26’ when they throw their first darts at 10am on Saturday, 26th September, before continuing non-stop until 10pm.

The quartet will stage their event at Broomhill, with Team 26 leading the way as part of a wider fundraising initiative. Other teams are being encouraged to organise their own 12 Hours of Darts events wherever they choose, helping to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support in communities across the country.

Organiser Thomas Bell said: “This is something we’ve wanted to do for a while. Cancer has touched so many families, including people close to us, and we wanted to organise an event that would bring people together while raising money for a fantastic cause.

“Twelve hours of darts will certainly test us, but if it helps raise awareness and much-needed funds for Macmillan, every throw will be worth it. We’d love to see as many people as possible come along, cheer us on and, if they can, make a donation.”

Fellow organiser Gavin Henderson added: “The support we’ve already received has been brilliant, and we’re incredibly grateful. Whether people can spare a pound or simply pop in to encourage us during the day, it all helps.

“Macmillan provides an incredible service for people facing cancer and for their loved ones. This is our way of giving something back and helping ensure that support continues to be there for others when they need it most.”

The organisers hope their Broomhill marathon will inspire other groups, clubs, pubs and dart teams to take part by running their own 12-hour events in aid of Macmillan, no matter where they are based. By combining the efforts of multiple teams, they hope to raise a substantial amount for the charity and make a real difference to those affected by cancer.

Donations can be made through the official fundraising page, with all proceeds going directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.
