Selkirk’s first cake shed set to open as local baker realises dream
A young Selkirk entrepreneur is preparing to open what is believed to be the town’s first-ever cake shed this week.
Brooke Laurie, the face behind the growing home baking business Blissbakes26, will officially open the self-service cake shed on Friday, July 24, at 1 Ladyshaw Drive, offering customers a range of freshly baked cakes, cookies and sweet treats throughout the weekend.
The venture follows months of preparation and has already attracted significant interest on social media, with hundreds of local residents eager to sample Brooke’s homemade bakes.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Brooke said: “I’m so excited to finally share all of my bakes with everyone and for people to start using the cake shed. The support I’ve received so far has honestly meant the world to me, and I can’t wait to welcome everyone on Friday.”
The cake shed will operate on an honesty-box basis, allowing customers to call in and purchase freshly baked goods during opening hours.
Opening times for the first weekend are:
- Friday: 8am–8pm
- Saturday: 8am–9pm
- Sunday: 10am–8pm
A special opening week menu is also due to be unveiled, featuring a selection of Brooke’s popular cupcakes, cookies and traybakes.
With honesty-box businesses becoming increasingly popular across the Borders, the new venture is thought to be the first dedicated cake shed in Selkirk and is another example of a local business bringing something new to the town.
Judging by the response ahead of the opening, Brooke could be expecting plenty of visitors keen to satisfy their sweet tooth when the doors open on Friday morning.
