Selkirk Common Riding Trust Announces 2026 Appointments
At a meeting held last night in the historic courtroom of Selkirk Town Hall—famed as the place where Sir Walter Scott is said to have dispensed justice for over three decades—the Selkirk Common Riding Trust confirmed its official appointments for 2026.
Mr Sam Coltherd was appointed Royal Burgh Standard Bearer for the year ahead. He will be supported by attendants Robbie Reilly, Conall Fairbairn, Elliot Hastie and Aiden MacFarlane.
In addition, the Trust appointed a group of former Standard Bearers as Burleymen: Darren Knox, Mathew Stanners, Thomas Bell and Adam Nichol.
The Trust extended its congratulations to all those appointed and wished them well in fulfilling their ceremonial responsibilities.

The roles will come into effect ahead of the Selkirk Common Riding, with the principal celebrations taking place on Common Riding Day, Friday 12th June, when the ancient traditions of the Royal Burgh will once again be observed, with the Colours being cast once more in the ancient Market Place.
