Selkirk CCTV

A new CCTV system has been installed in the centre of Selkirk by Selkirk Means Business as one of the legacy projects of the BID company that ran from March 2018 to March 2023.

CCTV has been an issue in the town for some time after concerns that many of the existing cameras didn’t work and those that did provided poor quality or range. In a public vote held in 2019, 95% of the participating community voted in favour of installing a new system.

Selkirk Means Business has provided funding for the new £30,000-system, with support also coming from the Selkirk Common Good Fund. The Selkirk Ex Soldiers and British Legion Scotland also contributed for an additional camera to focus on the town’s war memorial.

The Selkirk Means Business group said the new system would reassure residents and help police when incidents occur, including a crime or a situation such as a missing person.  The eight new cameras have received strong support from Selkirk’s community police officer.
