
Selkirk Rugby Club held their annual Awards Night on Saturday evening at Philiphaugh,where a packed crowd gathered to celebrate the club’s achievements across the season. Club President Graham Marshall chaired the evening and praised the players for their efforts throughout the campaign before presenting the first set of awards. Tom Ramage was also praised for his work as 1st XV manger and was wished well for his upcoming roll as Club President.
In the 1st XV awards, Brodie Allan received the Watt Henderson Award for Most Committed Player. Ben Pickles collected the Oliver Lawson Quaich for Top Try Scorer, while Monroe Job enjoyed a successful evening after being named Top Tackler, Spectators’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year. Ben Pickles also received the Tom Henderson Award for Special Achievement before later being presented with the George ThomsonMemorial/Boag Cup as the club’s overall Player of the Year.
Royal Burgh Standard Bearer Sam Coltherd was also presented with a commemorative tankard and was wished well for the year ahead representing the town as Standar Bearer.
‘A’ team manager Bryan Hoggan then reflected on an impressive season for the second XV, highlighting their success in winning the Border Junior Cup as well as lifting the John Laing Sevens title in April. He also thanked coaches Robert Cook and Scott Tomlinson for their hard work and commitment throughout the season.
The ‘A’ team awards then followed, with Robbie Macdonnell receiving the Neil Redpath Award for Most Committed Player. Archie Morris collected the Players’ Player award, while Cammy Easson received the Harris Quaich for displaying the club’s core values throughout the season.
Defence coach Michael Jaffray then reviewed the first team’s season and thanked fellow coaches Sesh Henderson and Alex Duncan for their work and support throughout the campaign.
Other speakers during the evening included Dennis Henderson, who reflected on his many years at Philiphaugh, and James Bett, who spoke about his association with Selkirk Rugby Club spanning more than 25 years.
The evening also recognised Ben Pickles and Callum Anderson for their selection for the Club International matches. Club captain Andrew McColm was presented with a commemorative cap after reaching the milestone of 100 appearances for the club, while Ross Nixon was also acknowledged for reaching the outstanding landmark of 350 appearances for Selkirk.

The club also extended thanks to Anne Hogg and her team for providing an excellent meal and keeping the drinks flowing throughout the evening, as well as Kelly Riddell and her team for all their hard work in putting together the season highlights during the presentation
