Fleshers name their man

Friday 17th April saw the AGM of the Incorporation of Fleshers take place at the Ettrick Forest Bowling Club, where Craig Lowrie was appointed Fleshers Standard Bearer for 2026.

Born in Edinburgh, Craig spent his early years attending Langlee Primary School and Galashiels Academy. In 2010, he made Selkirk his home, where he has since firmly established himself in both his professional life and the local community.

Craig works as an Accounts Manager with Edmundson Electrical, bringing dedication and reliability to his role. Outside of work, football has been a lifelong passion. Having played Border Amateur football since 1994, he hung up his boots in 2024 after an incredible three decades in the game.

His involvement in football continues beyond playing. Craig has proudly represented, captained, and coached Selkirk Victoria, and he now shares his experience and enthusiasm as a coach for the 2014 age group at Selkirk Football Club.

Away from football, Craig enjoys being an active member of Selkirk Bowling Club and Selkirk Golf Club, valuing both the competitive and social aspects of sport.

In 2020, when the Common Ridings were cancelled, Craig set himself the challenge of running a 10k in each of the Border towns, raising funds in support of the tradition.

Craig is supported every step of the way by his Lady Busser, daughter Katie Lowrie, along with his wife Andrea and children Robbie, Jaymie, Kris, Jorja and Ross, who remain at the heart of everything he does.

On his appointment, Craig said “It’s a great honour to be appointed. Since moving to Selkirk in 2010, it’s been an ambition of mine to cast the flag. Coming from a background of football, football and more football, I didn’t make the grade for any of the crafts, so I’m incredibly grateful to the Fleshers for giving me this opportunity.

Growing up in Gala, I always wanted to Cast the Colours and represent the Craft. I’ve always loved the Common Ridings and how they bring the whole town together. Selkirk has such a rich history and proud traditions, and I’m honoured to now be part of that.”

Along with Craig’s appointment Keith Laurie was appointed Deacon with Craig Haldane as right hand man and Alex MacKenzie as left hand man.

Craig wishes all his fellow Standard Bearers a fantastic Common Riding come the 12th June.
